The Godhead - Mosiah 15 & John 17 - Mystery Solved Part 1

Phil teaches that the Father and the Son are two distinct divine individuals who are perfectly united in purpose, will, and authority. He focuses on Mosiah 15 to show that scriptural language uses titles like “Father” and “Son” to describe Christ’s roles and relationship to God the Father, not to eliminate personal distinction. Christ is the Son because he was sent by the Father, took upon himself flesh, and submitted fully to the Father’s will (Mosiah 15:1–7). Christ is also described as Father in that he represents the Father, speaks in the Father’s name, and becomes the covenant Father of those who are spiritually reborn through Him (Mosiah 5:7; Mosiah 15:10–12).

Phil teaches that eternal life is made possible through Christ’s redemption, which ransoms all from death and hell and opens the way for repentance, justification, and transformation (Luke 17:1). He explains that becoming sons and daughters of Jesus Christ comes through the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost (3 Nephi 9:17, 20), and that Christ continues in intercession before the Father as we qualify for greater endowments of power (D&C 45:3–5). Phil outlines the straight and righteous path back to God, with Christ acting as keeper of the gate (2 Nephi 9:41), the two resurrections made possible by His victory over death (Mosiah 15:20–27), and the beauty of those who teach this doctrine and invite all to come unto him (Mosiah 15:14–18).

The episode closes with a testimony that Christ has extended the invitation to all to come unto Him (John 6:37), offering joy, redemption, and a place in the eternal family of God through faithful covenant obedience.
